The detailing clay glides along the surface of your paint and grabs anything that protrudes from the surface. The surface particle sticks to the clay and is effectively removed from your vehicle. The surface being clayed should always be made wet with a clay lubricant to prevent loose debris from scratching the vehicle.

Wet sanding is the process that has the same effect as car polishing. You are taking down the amount of clear until the defects are removed until the car surface is in good condition or level again.
